What is ___?

As a culture we are reminded to think about all the things we want and desire and then go after it and to work hard to gain those items or fancy, lavish lifestyles. We are inundated and forced to believe that our work effort is and should be our main purpose in this life. With a little hard work, we believe, comes comfort and desires. A big problem with comfort is it can stem from a lack of caring and servitude towards others. We think why should I do something for someone else if i’m not going to get something back in return?? We become very selfish and self centered in everything we do, think, dream, and even sometimes preach. When there is a time where we see another person struggling or in need of help our first thought is usually “they probably deserve their situation…did you not see or hear the things they have done?” We start to dissect other peoples life decisions and circumstances. We gossip about others failures all while making excuses for our own. We boast about ourselves while tearing others down. We become exactly what we complain about…hypocrites!!

Often times we take a look at our lives and think about all the things we have accomplished but yet seldom stop and think about all the times we didn’t quite make the mark. I mean who in their right mind wants to sit and dwell on all the things that they have not succeeded at? I know I don’t! But when we do think of our shortcomings we often try and find excuses that we can create to have an excuse to feel as if those failures aren’t truly our fault. This is typically a defensive mechanism.

When we refuse to love others around us what we are really doing is causing ourselves to become isolated and lost in our own slumber where we think is the only place we can go to escape the reality of our own lives.
